  1. I think BEST is probably relative and subjective, and in your case may depend on many factors.

It also may depend on your aspirations and expectations, your theatrical education and ability. Then it may depend on the genre where you'd like to begin, IE: Theater or Film.

NYC and NY in general are excellent for schools and theatrical venues to get WET IN, and LA MAY be where one  should hang out, thinking of a film career, but either, major location, still means you have to expend the energy to make it happen.

Neither location is a bargain in the sense of living costs, and the fact that 10,000 or more others have the same idea.

I suppose if you are a Virgin to it all, a total novice, you should attempt Community theater, smaller venues, offering opps. for experience and networking. I suspect you should gain tolerance and acceptance levels as well as education and experience, and learn that some compromise is likely necessary, though not in accepting degradation.

You might look for an old book I wrote while at NYU.

"101 ways to prepare and enjoy Peanut Butter"

Primarily geared toward people such as yourself.

An ancient quote you might use as a mantra as well. "A journey of 1000 miles, begins with a single step."

  2. new york only for broadway acting careers. hollywood california only for TV and movie acting careers. new york has broadway and stage performances everynight mostly and they are always doing casting calls for stage performers. hollywood is for the TV and movie actors and actresses. for hollywood you WILL need an agent if you want to get into anything there. if you need an agent. look on the internet. you can type in google for either new york or hollywood talent agents.

    ~*REMEMBER*~

if you didnt already know this. if an agent asks for money once they say they will repesent you, they are a scam and dont give them the money. also if you are under 18 then dont go into a room by yourself with the agent.

    i hope this helped you.

i am trying to become an actress too and i might go to hollywood or in california and be on disney channel (that is my plan anyway but first I have to get an agent)

    GOOD LUCK!!!! =)

  3. New York, New York! Get some headshots, and an agent.

    This site can help. http://newyorkacting.com/

  4. nEw yOrk Of cOZ!!!

  5. NYC or LA cause they're sooo many chances to get acting jobs depending on what you wanna do. if theatetr is more yor thing then deff NYC if its movies and tv then LA

  6. NYC and LA are bad places for starting a career. They're the places you go when you already have a good resume with solid training and experience. I know many actors in NY who are pounding the pavement and their #1 regret was moving too soon - there's so much competition, it's struggle to even get parts in small shows on your resume. Build a good resume first, THEN go.

Now if you want to do primarily film work, you have a bit more flexibility, since there's a higher premium on looks and youth in LA. BUT you can't count on that and the competition is fierce there as well. Agents want actors who are going to book jobs and that means -AGAIN- having a solid resume that shows all the great work you've done. I would also recommend getting your SAG card before moving to LA. Most agents aren't going to sign a non-union actor.

If you're just starting and are looking for a mid-level market with many opportunities without quite as much competition or frenzy, I would recommend Chicago or DC. Both places have great training resources and some of the most respected theatres in the county (not to mention many small professional and community theatres which is where you're going to start and work your way up). Also, both cities have opportunities for film and tv work so you could get also your SAG card.

    Good luck!
