I'm mexican, and I'm going to study abroad, but I have 2 options that keep surrounding in my head, My first option is New York, and my second is Ottawa canada, people tell me that ottawa is good because is very calmed and the people really respects you, and from new york i have only heard bad stuff like there's a lot of criminals, and that people are not as friendly as ottawa, im really confused because I have little time to make my decision, if you could please point some cons and pros about each city, i would really appreciate it. thank you.

  1. New York.. its my favorite place in the world.. I love going there.. There are so many people and at night its just amazing.. As for criminals.. be smart about stuff and you'll be fine.. there is no place like NYC..

  2. Ottawa is more of a calm place. If you enjoy half city life, and half nature, then by all means choose Ottawa. I myself live in Toronto (2 hours away) and have been to Ottawa plenty of times. Being the worlds most multi cultural country, there is NO NEED to worry about racial issues, infact crime rates are really low aswell. There are so many sights to see, alot of people visit Ottawa just because of the scenery mixed in with the city life. ALTHOUGH it may be slightly more dull than New York, a more laid back person would enjoy Ottawa.

PS. a handful of people speak french in that city, not to worry though because most people who speak french are bilingual (with english).

PPS. being the capital of Canada, Government Buildings are a sight to see. The prime minister lives in Ottawa too :P

If i were you i'd choose Toronto, lots of great universities here. Very vibrant. Toronto is much more comparable to New York than Ottawa.

  3. I moved to Manhattan from Chicago and I'm a thousand times happier here. I'm sure Ottowa is a nice place but there is no way it can compare to New York, that would be like comparing Ottowa to London or Paris. It's much safer than Chicago, too.

Huge, vibrant Latino population. So much more stuff to do.

The only way I'd take Ottowa over New York is if you're not much of a city person.

  4. Criminals in NY?  You watch too much TV, my friend :)

  5. New York is more fun, and more is happening there.  You are right it is a bit dangerous, but use your common sense and you can remain safe.

Ottawa is kind of dull, but yes, definitely safer and more friendly.

If you are laid back, mild mannered, maybe Ottowa

If you are more outgoing and adventurous, maybe NYC

    Have fun

  6. New York City = More places  to be, more people to hang out with.

Canada = Uhh let's just say their quiet but the problem with Canadians is they hate the American way of life.

    Now I suggest Chicago.

    Yes Chicago.

New York City is to polluted, garbage on the side, and when I visit there (I visited 3 times already) people threw rocks at my car....

Yeah Chicago is amazing. I live in downtown well use to but it's a good city. Especially in the summer. Live in the North Side because it's a lot quieter and 5 miles south  you have downtown!..

    YAY!

    CHICAGO!

  7. In Ottawa they won't mock your awful English as much as they would in New York.

  8. London - English speaking and Madrid or Barcelona - Spanish
