I am not sure whether to move to Bangalore or Chennai. Suggest me, which city would be better and the manpower will not be a problem.

In future I am also planning to establish a software development company, so I am not much sure about where to move and which city would suits me better.

Any suggessions??

  1. Both R good......I guess B'lore is better for learnin different languages....

  2. Chennai anytime mate.

  3. Hi,

In Chennai, plenty of language translators are available, especially Malay & Indonesian.

In my opinion Chennai will best suit for your business

    All the best !

  4. In my opinion Bangalore is good city witch is good climate and IT

    companies where established.

  5. Both places are good.  to my knowledge. Bangalore is also fast developing and chennai is not a exception.  In chennai people are having cheap mentality. They will not give good salary. In bangalore there is a chance of getting good salary. Accomodation is very difficult in bangalore but in chennai accomodation you can easily locate and rent is nominal. It all depends up on individual and their ability to market.  Better open both place.

  6. While it is comfortabe deciding your location based on climate, infrastructure, etc, you will not be successful unless you base your decision on sound business principles. I would suggest the following course of action:

    1. Who are your customers? Where are they available more- in Bangalore or Chennai? Look for some business articles in the web pages of newspapers for some clues;

    2. What are your strengths? Where can you leverage your strengths more? Call up few people from customer profiles in both cities and find out what specific problems they are facing. Check if you can solve these problems with your venture.

    3. Are there already such services? Common wisdom will tell you to start where there are no or less such ventures. But, I would suggest exactly opposite. Look at the yellow pages of both cities. Are there any advertisements for your kind of services? If so, go to the city (if all other parameters also favour) where there is more such ads. There are more ads because there are more business opportunities!!! No one would have advertised if there was no customers!! If you can establish a good value proposition for your business, you can succeed in spite of competition. Remember, there is usually more than enough for every good vendor and the economy is booming.

    4. What are the businesses where you can contribute as a joint venture partner? Which city has more of these? For example if your venture can couple with educational institutes or foreign diplomatic missions (just some wild guesses, I am no expert in your field) where can you find more of such firms?

    5. What about well established competition? If there are such firms, you need to carve out a niche market for yourself, so that you dont compete with them!! But do not be scared, there presence simply means there is huge business out there!!! Only that you need to be clear about your USP.

Once such questions are answered you also need to consider tax structure in these states, availability of skilled manpower, regional biases, language barriers, cost of living, infrastructure and ofcourse the climate, if you so desire.

But remember, no planning can be perfect. Businesses have thrived in both cities and overall econonomy is booming. But unless you have resources to manage for a long haul, it is better to decide based on sound business principles.

And, if you are so inclined, my best advice will be to ask yourself. Ask within, as they say. Keep asking this question to yourself over and over again, especially before sleeping. An answer will come to you.
