  1. depending what do you do in Spain... the three cities are beautiful, but there are a lot of more less famous but very beautiful. TOLEDO, GRANADA, CORDOBA, TERUEL, GERONA, VITORIA, SAN SEBASTIAN, SANTANDER, OVIEDO, SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, SALAMANCA, AVILA, SEGOVIA...and more!!!

  2. I liked Madrid

  3. It really depends on what you want to do.  Madrid is beautiful, has incredible museums, like the Prado, and the Reina Sofia (modern art) and fun theater.  Barcelona has incredible architecture, is on the coast and a great night life.  Valencia is also on the coast, and surrounded by great little towns like Denia that are fun to visit.

You just need to think about how you enjoy spending your time, museums, night life, beach time...that will help you decide.

Of course, I think all of Spain is incredible, beautiful and fun.

  4. Barcelona.

    Excellent place.

Expensive to get there but really cheap with the €'s.

  5. Ok, Controvertial subject but I´m going to plump for Madrid after having lived in all three cities.

To me the people are a lot more welcoming and being a city made up mainly of internal economic migrants it has a bit of every part of Spain. This also has the added benefit of the cities natives being accustomed to different attitudes and accepting them far more readily.

Both Valencia and Barcelona are geographically constrained and this has subsequently pushed up land prices and therefore accomodation prices. Madrid still has a wide variety of accomodation options for all budgets and a Hostel in the city centre starts from as little as 15€ a night. Add this to the phenomenal public transport network on which you can take journeys at less than 60 cents (by buying 10 trip €5.10 ticket) each and it is truly a tourist city.

  6. Have a look at two great websites

    http://www.spanish-property-today.com and

    http://www.spanish-property-for-sale.tv .

They have lots of information about Spanish cities.

  7. I love Madrid.  There is so much there to see and do.  The subway makes it really easy to get around within the city and there is train service to all the other cities.

Valencia is smaller, on the Mediterrian and has, in my mind, the best festival in the world in the spring, Las Fallas.  Click on the British flag at the bottom of this page to get it in English.

  8. Try to stay near any of the coastal areas as the pollution in Barcelona will knock you over..like Mexico city is for smog..absolutely disgusting air. Try the areas to the south and you will enjoy it.

  9. You must visit the smaller cities for a taste of the real Spain from Moorish times.

Spend time in Toledo, 70 miles from Madrid, and Granada, the old Moorish capital, 2 hours from the Costa del Sol.

I've been to every town in Spain except Barcelona and Vigo, and the above are my favourites.

If you do go to Granada, find the money for a night in the Alhambra Palace hotel, and go to the old town for tapas and wine.

In Toledo, stay at a 50 buck hotel as close to the main square as possible, and soak up the atmosphere.
