It depends on what you are into

I personally love Melbourne.. Good food , 4 seasons (not 2 dry & wet only ) arts & culture, Shopping, Sports , affordable & still lots to do  surf coast is only a couple of hours away & safe Bay for the kids to swim in without worrying about Surf hazards & fishing Etc Etc Etc.

Brisbane has the best climate and is a great place to live. I moved here from Melbourne and while I still love Melbourne, Brisbane is a better place to live. Melbourne should be the next choice for someone who doesn't mind their weather.

Melbourne and Sydney are overrated.

I've only been to Adelaide which i love!

but other people have told me Brisbane, Perth and Hobart (which you didn't list) are fantastic. I think Darwin is too remote and too small and too hot.
