  1. Baltimore! I've been to both, and Baltimore seemed to have a lot more going on during those weekends. Guess it depends on your age and what you're into... The Harbor was fantastic!

  2. I am originally from Baltimore and have never been to Buffalo, but I can tell you a lot about Baltimore.  Though the city is somewhat dirty, I would recommed living in one of the nearby counties, such as Baltimore County.  It is actually quite nice.  The homes are inexpensive, but you still have a lot of businesses nearby.

The nice thing about Baltimore is that the Inner Harbor is just a stone's throw away.  There, you can find the National Aquariam, Power Plant Live, and the Science Center.  I guess I'm somewhat of a snob, because I know Baltimore so well, and of course, with it being my home town, it has a special place in my heart.  I moved out of state to be with my now husband.  Moving away was the right choice for me, because I'd lived in Baltimore for 26 years, and it was time to experience something new.

But, not only do you have the Inner Harbor, but you have Little Italy right on the cusp of Fells Point, a trendy little area of the town known for its bars and nightlife.  Not to mention the fact that Baltimore is on the water, so you have the luxury of taking a ride in Baltimore's water taxi.  The surrounding areas are great, too.

    I hope this helps!

  3. Buffalo, NY.

  4. I'm guessing this is job related, since no one moves to either by choice.  But if I had to choose, then Baltimore.  Baltimore is close to DC and its attractions, has a fairly vibrant young community, lots of nice rolling and wooded areas in the surrounding areas, and has a mild winter when compared to Buffalo.  The downside would be the cost of living.  Baltimore has its crime issues and to get a house in a decent neighborhood you need to pay twice what you would pay in Buffalo (or any less crime-infested city).  The public school system in Baltimore City is at third-world level, and the public school system in Baltimore County varies from "eh, it's okay" to "not suggested".  Private schools in the area are pretty expensive with most catholic high schools having tuition of around $14 to $16k a year.  Then there are the taxes.  I'm not certain about New York state, and can't see it being much better, but you can count on your income taxes in Maryland being around 8% between what the state and the counties charge.

Baltimore varies from ultra-preppy suburbs to very rough around the edges.  There are plenty of tattoos, lots of binge drinking, not much exercising, many people wearing cut-off jean shorts, and many drug addicts (and not just in the black community).  I suggest traveling there before packing the u-haul.  On the other hand, if you have to move, then you have to move.  I hope that wasn't too depressing of a description, but that's my honest opinion.

  5. Seriously-you have to be kidding. That's almost the same as Detroit or Cleveland. The city I'd move to in between is Colorado Springs (which I did three months ago from Detroit area), or San Diego.

  6. Baltimore, Md.  Buffalo, NY gets buried under several feet of snow every winter.

  7. Baltimore.

Baltimore is warmer, more urban, and close to big-city hubs such as DC (1 hour), Philly (1.5-2 hours), and NYC (3-3.5 hours).

[It's about 4 hours from Buffalo to NYC]

There are a lot of young urban professionals and jobs in the Baltimore metro area. The outlying areas of Baltimore (Baltimore County, Howard County, Arundel County) are decent-->very nice areas for schooling and suburban family life.

Baltimore has crime, but only in certain areas. Baltimore has a very vibrant, cultural vibe and lots of stuff to do.

Buffalo has--SUNY Buffalo, and a lot of snow. Beautiful in the summer, but the winter is from October - MAY...unless you love cold weather and tons of snow, I'd rather move to Baltimore
