  1. i think you would be better off in Wellington because the embassies of foreign countries plus New Zealand government ministries and departments are located there. You would likely end up with a job with those organizations but anyway its up to you.

Wellington is more compact than Auckland.

In terms of population Auckland is still way larger than Wellington.

Public transport is much better than Auckland.

In my experience I feel that the Wellingtonians are friendlier than Aucklanders.

I felt that Wellington was safer than Auckland

  2. Wellington. It does have some very strong winds and is a bit cooler than Auckland, but it is also less humid.

July is winter so yes, it is cold but not too cold - just a few degrees less than Auckland.

Summers are pleasant but rarely hot.

  3. I've never been to Auckland, but I live in Wellington and I'm studying International relations. Where do you live now? I was under the impression that the only place you can study IR is in Wellington..

July is cold everywhere because that's the middle of our winter. Wellington would be a far easier place for you to get a job because there is Parliment and other Government Departments here in Wellington.

Why don't you visit both and see what you think?

  4. It depends on how you define "better".

Wellington being the capital, there would be more opportunity for international work through the government based there, I would think.  I actually preferred Wellington to Auckland, not only is it a more attractive city it also seemed more cosmopolitan.  In terms of NZ it is also more centrally located.

July is in the winter season in NZ, but again, it depends on how you define cold.  It's not cold like Canada, for example, in winter.  The north island tends to be more tropical; you want more winter-like conditions in winter, head to the south island.

  5. Wellington
