I just read the David gallop reckons that Sydney cannot support 9 clubs and that some will need to merge or be cut. which clubs could be axed. I think that only sydney clubs will be cut.

I'm all for souths being axed.

possibly Penrith. deciding on any other teams is tough.

  1. All AFL i know this  is a league question but nobody wants to see a full grown man jump on another mans back.

  2. south sydney and sydney S****y roosters because maroubra sre still in eastern side of sydney both team are neighbour so cut them.

  3. instead of restricting we should expand the game, less clubs will increase the chance of hypocritical, greedy fuckers going to france and england.

  4. Its hard to say who to cut as each team has its own significances in the league.. but personally if i had to choose, souths and dragons...

  5. Mate Sydney is the Australian home of Rugby League, it will always dominate here! Having said that, i don't believe any teams should be "cut" per say, but.......!

We should definately have a 20 team, two tiered Competition. Just like the English & European Soccer, and just like the First & Second Division we grew up with in Local Juniors. Ten top teams in Division 1 and the bottom 10 teams in Division 2.

I would love to see the Bears, Magpies, Tigers, Newtown Jets, Cumberland (Wentworthville) and even a Country Rugby League team compete.

We really should introduce an Indigineous team as well and maybe a Pacific Island team, or Fiji etc.....

  6. souths!! but i love hating souths? so ill admit ill miss them... they just went about remaking that team the wrong way.. penrith should go aswell

  7. i dont want to see a club go down the drain, so the clubs located closely to each other could possibly merge, for example........ souths and the roosters.

panthers probly wont be cut as they have panthers club support and panthers owns several clubs in nsw, i think the knights could be in danger as they dont have a leagues club and parramatta they had 3 clubs, now only 2 as they closed 1 down the other week coz it wasnt turning a profit!

  8. Mate Australia needs to adopt a tier system. With there been no relegation, the games between the bottom tops are meaningless and who wants to watch meaningless games. The NRL needs to adopt a similar system to The English Super League which the bottom team is relegated to Division 1 and they even have a division 2. This would make the competition more exciting. Why does the NRL not have a knock out cup competition like the English challenge cup which generates even more interest  and revenue in the game.

  9. As a Sharks supporter I think the teams that should be cut are...

Broncos, Bulldogs, Raiders, Cowboys, Manly ,Storm, Knights, Eels, Panthers, Rabbits, Dragons, Roosters, Warriors, Tigers & Titans...

Then we might finally win a premiership..

  10. Souths & St George

  11. Souths have to go, there supporters are just idiots

st george there fans are just ugly

and Canterbury there fans are rapists and on the dole

  12. Souths because they are c**p, they'd lose to a schoolboys team.  Panthers aren't a bad club but they simply do not have enough fans.  The Dragons will keep the name St George but I think they should be the "local" team for the entire South Coast of NSW hopefully creating a larger fan base.  Tigers, Bulldogs and Sharks (might move to Central Coast) would just make the cut while Parra, Eagles and Roosters would definitely stay.

  13. Competition should be 14 teams so that they play each other twice. Souths if get the wooden spoon should be relegated to NSW VB Premier league. Same for the wooden spoon for 2009    let the results on the field be what counts!

  14. i think they should scrap souths, st george, manly, tigers and sharks

keep eels and bulldogs as they can still attract decent crowds, keep penrith because they feed some of the best juniors and keep sydney because it can represent the rest of the other clubs.

or get the others to merge with other clubs

nrl doesnt have a tier style compeition because they adopted an american style franchise system, which lowers cost, and increases merchandise revenue, but it becomes too unpredictable and the crowd attendances become unstable. If they swapped to a promotion/relegation system they would have to get rid of the salary cap which would mean bye to a lot of teams so it wouldnt work in australia because there isnt a big enough infrastructure

  15. Sounds like super league again. Tigers will stay - they have already merged and have 3 licensed clubs supporting them. Holmes a court is already talking about pulling out of Souths - so they would be gone. They annoy me anyway - the crowds come out only for rallies to say they should be in the comp - then they get 2000 to a game.

If you want to talk geographical mergers - Sharks and St George to cover the south of Sydney (The Shire). Parra and Penrith to represent the greater west region. Roosters and Souths merge to cover Sydney itself. Wests stays for Campbelltown and inner west. Manly stays for the north and bulldogs stay. That would make 6 teams.
