Its my senior year and my parents are badgering me about college. I would like to study biology (premed) but i am not sure which university/college will give me a better start in this field.

I'm pretty sure i could get accepted to these schools, so the question is, which one is the best for this field?

Wake Forest University

University of Pittsburgh (like 10 min from my house, a little to close to home -_-)

University of Michigan Ann Arbor

The College of William and Marry

Thanks in advance for any advice/tips about these colleges and/or which one(s) i should look at more closely.

Also if there are any other universities i should be interested in (with good premed programs) please tell me

  1. These are all decent schools, but I would rank the University of Michigan as best.  It is a large, research school, which has major advantages for premed students.

  2. Those are all very good schools.  Generally Michigan would be considered the best of that bunch.  William & Mary is an excellent school (my mom went there) but it is really more of a liberal arts school than science.  Pitt has some very nice facilities but isn't as respected as some Michigan or Wake because they are a lot more lienant in acceptance.  Also, I can't blame you for not wanting to go to a school that close to home.  If I were you I would apply to Michigan, Wake and Pitt.  Pitt is almost a given that you will get in so its a very good backup.

As for schools you didn't mention I would consider Wisconsin, Penn State's Honor College School (Schreyer's), Washington University in St. Louis, and University of Deleware's Honors School.  Washington in St. Louis has an amazing program, perhaps the best non-ivy, but it is costly and is very hard to get accepted to (even harder than Michigan).  Penn State is a fine scool and the honors program is phenomenal.  Not only is it very respected but it comes with a $5,000 scholarship and samller class sizes.  Once again though it is highly selective.  Wisconsin is a very good school, I don't really know much about the honors school but the main school is prestigous and you should probably get in with relative ease (I would think it would be easier to get into than Wake).  Lastly the University of Deleware is supposed to have one of the best honor schools in the country and since it is within your general area I thought I'd mention it.
