  1. A lot of colleges do, but they won't publicize it.

It also depends on where you want to go to school... many private schools offer the scholarship you described over public schools.

I know here in NC if you have good grades, a lot of places will practically pay for your entire schooling

  2. No guidance counselor is going to check EVERY scholarship out there from EVERY school in EVERY academic program in your state... if they said they did, they are lying.  LOL

Many scholarships from the schools aren't publicized tremendously....  some will allow you to have an academic scholarship, but then ALSO allow you to be a RA (Resident Assistant) and get your room and board for free.  You are in charge of all the students in your particular dorm floor and make sure they don't have parties and such.

Also schools will have a "Student Leadership" program or something similar, "Student Ambassador", something...  tied to the schools student government program, student leaders and such... basically the students agree to run student council meetings, run for homecoming king/queen, help with new student orientation, etc. in exchange for free tuition...

Most of the kids that get these scholarships are the traditional age, attractive, outgoing, friendly with only so-so grades but lots of social skills (you usually see these kids photos posted in the schools view book and on the schools website).

    Hope this helps.
