Absolutely, white would look great. Make sure it's not a stark, bright white...make it an eggshell or off-white to soften it with the red. :)

I would say white, but if you have kids, then not recommended.  You could get a tan color, like burlap.  Get a few throw pillows with the red and tan together to tie it all in.

you can get white with black design curtains - very modern, or a cream color, it's cooler if you have pattern in them.  maybe they are a few colors and one of them is red, so that it matches the sofas.

a red pair of cutains with a black design on them if you sofa is plain red and your rug is plain black dont throw in too many different colours the black design will bring a nice contrast always remember in a room light dark light dark with all furnishings with furniture thats plain always add some design with curtains also ad some white voile underneath as these colours are very dark and it will bring it all together then add some nice red and white cushions on your red sofa

if you really want purple make it a very dark shade and may i suggest that you chose fabrics of a different texture and then co -ordinate with cushions. Look on the internet or google a colour wheel and see what the co ordinating colours are. Like everyone else suggested the typical colours to go with red are cream, blac, white and dark green.

Alternatively take a sample of your couch fabric to the store with you and see what you think of the purples/
