The first answer is correct.  Latitude is always first.

Latitude first.  Just remember that in winter many Alaskans have a very bad latitude (I mean attitude!).

It doesnt matter.

If you see a coordinate... one number will necessarily be followed by N or S, the other will necessarily be followed by W or E.

If one is not followed by a letter, then there is inherent ambiguity in which hemisphere we are talking about.  And if it does have a letter, as it should, whether its longitude or latitude should be apparent.

If you cant figure that out, quit now.

longitude measures the distance, east or west, of the Zero or Greenwich meridan whereas latitude measures the distance north or south of the equator. as to which ohe came first i believe it was longitude.

If looking for a geographical location and all you have are the numbers for lat. and long. it is the latitude that is listed first
