  1. Toyota advertises that their cars get more miles to the gallon than most other manufacturers cars - I can't say that they're the best but in my experience they're at the top.

  2. Hybrid taxi

  3. The most fuel efficent cars out there are:

    1. Toyota Prius

    2. Honda Civic Hybrid

    3. Volkswagen Jetta TDI/ Bug TDI

  4. prius gets 50 to 60 MPG. if you doubt this then ask someone who owns one to average it out over a week.

diesel cars are supposed to get comparable rates, but i don't know as much about it. just a guy i know who says his crappy rabbit has gotten 50 mpg for years.

  5. Volkswagen diesels.

Almost all of them get 50 mpg.

The VW Lupo TDI diesel got 78 mpg!

The engines last hundreds of thousands of miles.

You can run biodiesel with no modifications

And todays cars don't smoke or rattle and start on a dime.

Did I mention they are much cheaper than hybids and aren't controversial about their cradle to cradle environmental impact?

My recommendation from experience.  I now have 4 diesels.  :)

more info on the Lupo.  a few years ago they drove one around the world and averaged over 100 mpg!

  6. Any time you can find a hybrid car that is good or like a 4 cylinder would be more efficent.

  7. Put a donkey in front of the car, and it will be most energy efficient car.

  8. Well, I don't know if anyone here will believe me, but I drive an electric car, and it is clearly much more energy efficient than any gas, hybrid, or diesel vehicle on the road. Here's a picture of it:

My car gets about 4 miles to the kilowatt-hour (a common figure for electric cars.) By charging overnight,  I can get a special off-peak electric rate from my utility of just 3 cents per KWH. That makes my energy cost less than ONE CENT per mile.

Do the math on any gas-powered car. Chances are that gas is costing you at least ten times that, and if you have a car that gets poor mileage - coupled with gas price increases, your fuel cost could even be 20 or 30 times higher than my electric car.

The low cost per mile of driving electric is made possible by high efficiency.

Here's a page about finding cheap electric vehicles (as little as $5000):

  9. Honda civic hybrids

  10. I feel the smaller model of cars as the 4 cylinder would be the most economical for gas consumption.    bettyk

  11. hybrid cars, of course

  12. Diesel ones.....

and emits far more less CO2, CO etc....

most of the products of its combustion degradetes in the nature within months....

but of course the most energy efficient way of transportation it is public transportation.....

the hybrids gives you that millage because they don`t burn any fuel wile stuck in traffic.....they are designed to save gas on your daily traffic jams....

  13. the toyota carolla ranks 10th in best green car, with 1-9 being hybrid cars...

    so it's great on gas...

  14. My Skoda Octavia (a subbrand of Volkswagen) achieved 50MPG in Diesel with a respectable 110 HP.

And its not even a hybrid.

And yes the LUPO has an even much greater mileage.

Generally all modern European Diesel on commonrail direct injection achieve a very high gas performance and most are ready to run on biodiesel
