Question:

Which companies can install a landline?

I want to get a landline installed in my flat and I was wondering whether there are other companies other than BT, who can install a landline for me? BT charge over £100 for a landline, which I think is ridiculous to be honest. I live in a non-cabled area in North East Wales, near the English border before you start recommending Virgin Media. :)

  1. BT have to install the line then you can use any company for calls but still have to pay a line rental to BT. Its about time they lost this monopoly.

  2. Sorry think only BT install them. Will check & if I find a company will come back.Looks has if BT have your area sown up.Eventually cable will move into your area.Good Luck

  3. Openreach is the network 'arm' of BT and only they can install a line in your area.

They will do this on behalf of your chosen service provider which doesn't have to be BT.

    See the openreach website explaining.

BTW.. if you asked the gas board to install a cooker for you, would you not expect a charge for their work ?!

  4. Cable..
