  1. many companies have bad animal rights histories. And some supposedly vegetarian or organic "animal friendly" companies are actually owned by factory farm corporations:

    *General Mills owns Muir Glen and Cascadian Farm

    *Heinz owns Hain, Breadshop, Arrowhead Mills, Garden of Eatin', Farm Foods, Imagine Rice (and Soy) Dream, Casbah, Health Valley, DeBoles, Nile Spice, Celestial Seasonings, Westbrae, Westsoy, Little Bear, Walnut Acres, Shari Ann's, Mountain Sun, and Millina's Finest

    * M&M-Mars owns Seeds of Change

    * Coca-Cola owns Odwalla

    * Kellogg owns Kashi, Morningstar Farms, and Sunrise Organic

    * Philip Morris/Kraft owns Boca Foods and Back to Nature

    * Tyson owns Nature's Farm Organic

    * ConAgra owns LightLife

    * Danone owns Stonyfield Farm

    * Dean owns White Wave Silk, Alta Dena, Horizon, and The Organic Cow of Vermont

    * Unilever owns Ben and Jerry's

  2. A lot of companies have bad records! Peta is one. KFC is another, but they seem to be working towards a better record with housing their animals.

    Good Records: For the most part your local farmer! Buy from them (their veggies).

    People are always going to eat meat. You can't make the world a meat free world. However you can support your local farmer who tends to treat their animals better. Buy your veggies at the farmers market, not in a store. Check out your local farmers. I have several times. See how their animals are housed. (I reported one who was cruel to their horses).

  3. BAD:

    KFC (in countries other than Canada. The company that owns the KFCs in Canada has agreed to a ground-breaking animal welfare program.)
