  1. my advise for beginners, is go to the library and get all books you can about computers, they are use full and is also cheap, based in what you read you might be interested in something and start buying books if that is your wish, that is the way I learned.

  2. May I suggest that you determine your entry level: beginner, novice or expert. Then, choose an area of focus (eg software(?), computer hardware, trouble shooting) so your learning is complete.

If you want the latest book (good budget), take a good look at the Funan Centre, computer bookshop. If little budget, I chose the Clementi Bookshop beside the DBS Bank. You can get a good book(s) at offered price without burning your pocket.

My second best choice will be to buy or subscribe to PCs or Computers magazine mainly overseas as this option will allow you to learn fast (large coverage) and up-to-date. This can be an expensive options due to its foreign currency exchange and tax. The cheapest option is to borrow books from library and source the information from the internet. There's a great pool of information lies in the internet world and it all depends on how you ask for it. Sometimes, the magazines do have a website that  you can tap into as well. Alternatively, use the Google search engine with selective keywords to fine-tune your search.

Lastly, my humble piece of advise: The technology change faster than what you can read. So, don't get disappointed if you don't know about certain subjects. Just ask the experts around us (you can use forum, too) and we decipher the proper information. Having said that, put to practise what knowledge you have acquired and be filled with a sense of adventure and humbleness. it's a joy of Learning, right?

  3. Funan Centre, Sim Lim Square. As for learning computer skills - can try to see whether any community centres are having such courses, or any private schools offered such courses. Self learning is applicable too - visit the library to check the varieties of books they have, you'll be surprised !
