It would either have to be Europe or North America.  Europe is the great centre of learning and one of the main battlefields of World War 1 and 2. North America has the US.

you have to really say what countries have the greatest impact on our world because generalising that mexico has the same impact of canada because its on the continent is wrong, does malaysia have as much impact as japan or estonia as much as russia so what you should be asking is what country has the most impact on creating the modern world and there are also different ways in which each country makes an impact on the modern world so you have to know what you are truly asking to know the answer(s)

Since you ask about the modern world, (not the developing world) I would have to answer Europe.  Over the last 5 centuries, European nations sent out colonies which have come to dominate the other continents for better or worse.  Capitalism, democracy, European, as far back as the greeks.
