  1. There is talk of reintroducing cheetah into india, but due to lack of help from iran these will be african cheetahs (not a big difference as cheetah went trhough a bottleneck about 10000 years ago when they got down to only a handful of individuals. One person said that there is so little genetic variation that all cheetah are as similar as twins.

As to the answer above, South africa has no reintroduction scheme to speak of. There may be small reintroduction programs on private land but the only reserve in south africa that can support a viable cheetah population already has one. That is Kruger national park, where there are approximately 200 (due to there inability to compete with other animals (they are often driven off there kills by lions and leopards but even a warthog can do so) they never occur in large numbers). There is a remnant population in north africa (probably about 200 again spread over 6 or more countries).

There are various cheetah centres in south africa, most of these are for public awareness. Those which do breed cheetahs do so for reintroduction in Namibia the country with the most cheetahs, largely due to the fact that the farmers are more tolerant (cheetahs often do far better outside reserves where they dont have to compete with as many large cats).

I believe that now india has decided to import african cheetah it will move pretty fast, but as there is rampant poaching in india and not enough space (the two things that pushed the indian cheetah to extinction in the first place) in ecology terms there is little point in this move, as cheetahs will not have the space to live unaided (there is unlikely to be a park which is large enough for a viable population whcih is not already populated with an animal which the cheetah cannot compete against.

Thats rather a long answer but i hope it suffices (my qualification for being able to answer is to have completed a Field guide qualification in south africa)
