I know that in Hungary I grew up eating sandwiches with cold cuts for breakfast and I was wondering how common this practice is. What other countries commonly eat cold cuts for breakfast. (My mother-in-law thinks it's weird to eat cold cuts for breakfast, but then again she doesn't use black pepper in cooking, either, so who is she to talk? :-)

  1. I had them for breakfast in Germany and Russia.

  2. I am a former chef from Canada and we do up here also, I love fried bologna or salami (kosher) for breakfast as and alternative to bacon, ham or sausages, what is bologna but a sausage in a larger format.

I have worked all over and it is common as stated in Europe and is not uncommon in Asia, in Japan they are now eating more of a western style breakfast and there it is very popular, and in England I have had full english breakfasts with other meats plus the blood sausage.

Your mother in law must be related to my mother here 3 favorite seasonings are salt, water and garlic powder

  3. Several North European countries commonly eat cold cuts for breakfast, i.e. in Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Holland. I know for sure because I've lived in these four countries for a couple of years. Weird? No, only a different food culture. In a lot of Asian countries, people have chicken or vegetable broths and noodles for breakfast, different again... In parts of France you can have cold cuts for breakfast as well : especially in the border regions neighbouring Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany.

    Bon appét*t!

  4. France! I was in France for a week, and in every hotel I stayed in offered a breakfast eggs, fruit, sliced meats (such as salami, ham, etc) and croissants. They are very big on eating sliced deli meats for breakfast.

  5. Sorry to be fussy, but countries don't eat anything at all. It's the people who live there that eat all sorts of foodstuffs. In the Netherlands they have cold meats for breakfast and lunch. 100% sure. You mentioned Salami, it seems to be very unhealthy to eat as it causes cancer, together with so many other meat varieties these days.
