Which countries smoke the most in the world (top 5)?

Question

in other words, if there was a survery, which country (in the whole world) would be number 1??? it would be great if you could give me the top 5 countries

i heard that some people said it was china, but my one friend said that iraq (or iran, i can't remember which one ) was first and that south korea was second. can you help??? thanks.

It depends on how you look at this. Percentage wise, Nauru, Guinea, Namibia, Kenya, and Bosnia and Herzegovania have the highest percentages of smokes, but relatively small populations.  China has a relatively small percentage of smokers, but a massive population and therefore accounts for aprx. 1/3 of all the cigarettes smoked. Population wise, we should also be looking as countries such as the US, Russia, Indonesia and Japan. Hope this helps.

A lot depends on whether you mean as a percentage of population, as a total number of people who smoke, or as total tobacco consumed.

Back in 1989 I recall Fidel Castro telling Cubans that they were the highest per capita users of tobacco in the world, and that they had the highest incidence of smokers. He was launching a major campaign to reduce smoking.

But clearly more tobacco was being consumed in USA, China, France. Cuba just does not have that many people.

Likewise no Middle east country consumes as much tobacco as does the USA, regardless of incidence of smoking. But China does. even with fewer cigs per day per addict... one big population.

they are probably oriental countries, china being the first,    i figure France and Germany are right up there somewhere,but i have no real stats to offer on this

if you mean smoking... as in cigars ? well if you mean by that it is traditional that Chinese people are smoking the most so it would be China, Japan, India, USA, France... that is what i think...
