There are two Christmas Islands.  One of them is in the Indian ocean  about 500kms south of Jakarta, Indonesia.  This Christmas Island is part of Australia.  

The other Christmas island is in the Pacific Ocean. This island is also  known as Kiritimati and is a part of the nation of Kiribati.  An interesting footnote to this is that Kiritimati is the first place on the planet to see the new year in.  Note also that in the language of Kiribati (Gilbertese) the "ti" is pronounced the way we say "s" and is a literal translation of Christmas, the way they say it.
