  1. "potential" nuclear weaponry is unlimited for both countries. Actual nuclear weaponry is about even. Now even Georgia may have nuclear weapons left over from the breakup of the USSR.

  2. The US has the largest active arsenal.

And, when you're talking nukes, the specifics are irrelevant - they all cause a huge mess.

  3. This is kind of a trick question.  The actual number of nukes is not as important as the quality, yield, and delivery capability.  When you think about it, this becomes a very complicated issue.

One single US nuclear submarine has enough warheads to destroy every city in the USSR with a population more than 20,000.  Think about that!

But in another sense, nuclear weapons are already obsolete as a weapon of war.  No national leader would be the first to use them because he would immediately lose, the whole world would unite against him.  No national leader can imagine a scenario whereby he has anything to gain by using nukes, except in defense.  So every nuclear country (except the US of course) has signed a no-first-use agreement.  The latest nuclear countries, India, Pakistan and North Korea don't even have delivery systems.  They have nukes so people like the US will leave them alone.  And they WORK for that!

I like the way Carl Sagan put it.  The nuclear arms race is like two people standing in a room up to their waists in gasoline arguing over who has more matches.

  4. Russia . and now the U.S is thinking of messing with them not a good idea at all .
