  1. It depends on how you define better.

But it is not really a very fair comparison.  Ireland is a sparsely populated island.  England is bigger and has more people.

If you want to live in a green damp island, live in Ireland.  If you want to live on a bigger island with more cities and things to do, live in England.

I'm sure you can find people who would argue it both ways, but it's all down to what you consider better.

  2. Better at what? England are better at World Cup football, but Ireland produces better beef.

  3. Ireland

    Everywhere is better than Engerland

    .

  4. much rather live in Ireland... they just seem to have their ish together much more and probably one of the best places to live in all of europe if you look at different rankings

    dont live in either

  5. england

  6. Are we doing a bit of **** stirring. You could of said Britain. I suspect your Irish. Niether. Each country is so different. You can not really compare them

  7. i wonder why this is asked so many times?  England if you live in England & i am sure the Irish would say the same about Ireland!

  8. im gunna say Ireland cause im irish

  9. I am from the best place in the world no matter where I go on hols I always cant wait to get home the people, food, drink places to see ect

    Dublin Rep of ireland

  10. Hard to tell, in all honesty.

I'm Irish and live in the Republic, and have only passed through England a few times on my way to other places.

Some things in England are better, but at a cost. For example, there is a great road infrastructure, which is only possible in a country with a dense population. People forget that the Republic of Ireland has only just over 4 million inhabitants, which is less than a quarter of the total population of the greater London area. This means that, in practical terms, it's hard to get revenue locally to build roads, never mind keep the historical castles and great houses - which is a terrible shame.

However, the dense population in England means that postal codes are required. Not so in Ireland, only Dublin city has postal codes. Why do we not require postal codes in Ireland? Because the population is still small enough. Local postal workers know EVERYONE in the town, and they know the people who are NOT local. Every stranger is noticed and usually approached. Yes, people are friendly, but they want to know who this person is and what they are doing in the area. When I moved to my current home, I went into the local post office and explained to the postmistress there that I had bought a particular man's house - I gave his name so she knew the house I was talking about - and that I was living with someone with a foreign name, and I wrote down that name so she would know where to direct the letters. There are no house numbers on my road, and I've already mentioned there are no postcodes in my region. But because everyone knows everyone else, this was not such an issue.

So really you need to better qualify your question - are you basing your question on quality of life, in which case Ireland is better, or the quality of the infrastructure, in which case England is miles ahead? And before you even answer that, you would do well to remember that England is only miles ahead because it could source cheap labour and materials from Ireland ....
