  1. I'd say USSR, they beat us with Sputnik to the moon.

  2. The UK is far more advanced in science and medicine. The US is also advanced, although the US tries to find 'cures' to diseases and the UK treats them temporarily. A temporary fix is better to most people than waiting for a cure. Plus the UK shares the information that they discover, the US hides it.

  3. well, i don't know. science will always be tied with technology and since the technology in america is better than most, i'd say america.

  4. Most scientists in the US are immigrants.  I'm currently a physics grad student, and over half of my fellow grad students in science, engineering, and math are international students.  The same doesn't apply to humanities grad students.

Yeah, so the US may be ahead in science, but they "imported" most of their scientists.

  5. id say as a whole america invents and creates more ideas, but no country is more 'clever' because there are dumb and genius people in both places. i just think because the usa is much larger and has more facilities that they have been able to advance. but, you forgot to mention japan :)  they're pretty smart also. but ya to be honest, usa.

just because a lot of well-known scientists are from the uk, doesnt mean there arent an equal amount of well-known scientists from america. it is of course most british people that are rooting for the uk and most americans that are rooting for the us. so, you arent really sure to get a fair answer here.

  6. UK!! woot~!

  7. usa 4 sho.  uk is wack.

  8. The UK is well known for being far better and faster at developing science. All the great scientists come from the UK and surrounding areas. They are the famous scientists who revolutionized the world by the discoveries that brought the world into the science era it is today. All the science books tell you that all of the greatest scientists come from the UK. Your teacher is right. It is not something that the US should be offended by, I am in the US as well, born and raised, but I understand the truth of our society does not breed people to be free thinkers like the UK does. There are so many rules and regulations against free thinking and invention that it always acceptable that the UK will have the better scientists for many years to come.

I don't care where the new science comes from, just glad it comes.

  9. Depends. Many scientists who live/d in the US and UK originally lived in many other countries (Einstein for example) were born in other countries. Both have "jacked" talent. Hard to say. If we want to get nationalistic (I don't mean to be mean as I have family that lives in the UK) the UK does have some famous engineering blunders like the Millennium Bridge fiasco and that one arch that was built... when it was placed the builders realized it wasn't wide enough to let carriages through (Don't remember the name, but I saw it on a tour once).

If you are talking about "scientific literacy" there was a poll of people in Europe and the US and the people in Europe have about 1% less or so in sci lit. (It's actually very sad, the US thing is something like 12%... people need to learn more about science.) It's funny though, even though the US has more scientifically literate people, more people default to creationism when it comes to the creationism v. evolution debate, while in Europe most people default to evolution. Amusing.

  10. usa

  11. the uk is great at comedy tv.  the usa is better at everything else including science

  12. UK cause most of the worlds greatest mind originally came from there. Good smart teacher.... listen to him or her more

  13. uk...naah US but Indians I think are getting better in implementions..

  14. The uk, here's proof

  15. I would have to say the U.S. Thomas Eddison did invent electricity and the phonograph.  Plus I think Steve Jobs has a pretty good record with new technology even though he may not be in the lab.

  16. probably uk.

even though I'm from the USA.

  17. Yes definitly the UK

We have/have had some of the most magnific scientists ever.

Tim Berners-Lee - Invented the internet

Steven Hawkins - Discovered black holes and space in general. He can also talk without moving his mouth and is still surviving a killer disease that should of killed him many years ago.

Sir Isaac Newton - Discovered the theory of gravity among other things.

Charles Darwin - Introduced the idea of evolution and survival of the fittest, as well as continental movement.

William Thomson - He discovered alternating current electricity. He also discovered that the best way to move electricity is copper wire.

Francis Crick - Discovered DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) (and i did not look that up) structure along with Maurice Wilkins and American James Watson.

    Maurice Wilkins - see above

Michael Faraday - He discovered electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism, and electrolysis. He also discovered DC current

Rosalind Franklin - discovered the full structure of DNA and photographed it too.

Jane Goodall - Did extensive discoveries into apes and how they live, linking us to them and that we must of evolved from them.

Edward Jenner - created the vaccination for smallpox, his theory was for vaccination is now the base of all vaccinations today.

That is just a few to name. But they invented some of the most significant things in human history - electricity, the internet, vaccinations.....
