Which country is dominate in Gymnastics?

Gymnastics isnt that popular in Australia but we do dominate the swimming..

I always get the impression that Russia and China are absolutely fanatical about the sport and spend a lot of resources and money and have the best gymnsts?

That's crazy talk. US dominates swimming. Have you not been watching Phelps. Aussies dominate swimming? That's a laugh.

To answer your question, US dominates in Gymnastics. Only reason other countries won, is because they cheated.

China is dominant in men's gymnastics, as evidenced by their 7 golds in the Beijing olympics. They won gold in everything but 1... that's pretty dominant.

However, for women's, there isn't a dominant country right now, just 4 really good ones. Dominant means that you kick complete butt - which is what the Chinese men did.

But no women's team destroyed everybody else. US women won gold on all-around and beam. Chinese women won gold on team and high-bar. A North Korean woman won the vault, and a Romanian won the floor.

So overall, China has the better gymnasts - a dominant men's team, and a very good women's team.

The United States. China should have been disqualified because I know for a fact that at least 3 of those gymnasts were under the legal competing age. One of those girls looked like she was only about 10. I know no one would challenge, China, though because they were the host country. Even Bela Karolyi "The Romanian Cowboy" said the the U.S. has the best gymnastics team. They were also saying how The Russians and The Romanians have gotten sloppy over the years since they've been westernized.

Chinese men and eastern European women ususally dominant gymnastics. This year Chinese mens team is said to be one of the strongest of all time, especially Li Xiaopeng, I think he is the only 16 times world champion gymnast in the world.

China for the mens. The only gold medal they didn't win was in the vault, because they didn't have a competitor in the final.

Li Xiaopeng, who is an absolute champ on the vault gave up the event to focus on the Team event.

i would say china is dominant for men and for women there is no real dominator,both china and usa are very strong and they are followed by Romania,but Romania will keep declining.  North Korea is rising.

China does spend a lot of money on training gymnasts and they begin at a very early age.  I think it is a tough call between China and the USA. I would have to say that US is actually dominate in gymnastics, but China is not far behind and could conceivably catch up and surpass the US.  

I am not basing this answer on medals won in the 2008 Olympics because in my opinion the judging was a bit skewed (as it has always been in gymnastics and figure skating)  regardless of the age issue that is a current topic.

You are right about Russia and China. But Russia isn't so fanatical  about gymnastics anymore like they used to be. China is pretty much #1 in demanding perfection from their gymnasts because they have so many small-statured people. I wonder if children over there are taught gymnastics from the time they can walk or maybe their first steps is on a balance beam.

Russia may eventually give China some competition as #1 because I suspect that they are wanting to bring back the USSR  from the past.  Pushy gov'ts like to have perfect athletes in the Olympics so watch for them at the 2012 Olympics giving China a run for their money.

Looks like China has the best gymnasts.  Their male gymnasts dominated the competition. They were amazing. Second best male gymnasts probably are the Japanese.  

As for female gymnasts, looks like it's close between China and the US.  China seems to have more depth but the US had the two top individuals.   The Romanians are usually good but have declined.
