Which country is generally more safer now Peru or Mexico?

Both Countries could be very dangerous if in the wrong part of town.For example Mexico city and Lima are both very dangerous in some parts while in other parts you are safer.Once you leave the Capitals both Peru and Mexico get much safer...especially in tourist areas as police presence is larger

The possibility of being assaulted can be greatly reduced in either city by taking a few simple precautions:

When taking taxis from an airport to your hotel, travel in the more expensive airport taxis and ensure that the drivers have official identification. Never take a taxi waiting outside the airport grounds.

When travelling from your hotel to the airport, go with a taxi recommended by the hotel.

Try not to arrive in a new city or town late at night.

Travel in a group if possible.

Learn the basics in Spanish before you arrive in Peru or Mexico. Don't expect that people will speak English.

Keep your valuables hidden.

Avoid going on your own to remote areas/ruins where tourist would be expected to go. Seek local advice or take a guide.

Read the guide books and talk with other tourists to find out which areas are best avoided.

When leaving discos late at night take a taxi home no matter how close your hostel is. Outside most discos you'll find a street vendor selling cigarettes. Usually these people know all the taxi drivers and can recommend a safe one.

When arriving in a new town, keep to your original plan and stay in the hostel that you have decided on. Don't let the taxi driver persuade you that your hostel is fully booked and that he knows a cheaper and better one. He'll be working on commission and the hostel probably won't be in a safe part of town.

Even better, when arriving by plane/train in a new city, try to reserve your hotel in advance, preferably with a hotel that has an airport/station  collection service.

Use Common sense and you will be fine

The second one is right... Peru is more safer than Mexico (in general) But.. Guadalajara is better than Peru... If you go to Guadalajara.. it's OK., but.. if you're going to Federal District.. it's better Peru

Depends where you go. GENERALLY, Peru... But, for example, Guadalajara, Mexico is much safer and more prosperous (per capita) than Lima, Peru. I mean, Lima is no better than Mexico city in terms of crime. But Cusco is much safer. But you can still get robbed at gunpoint hiking to Macchu Picchu alone. It really depends... Are you planning a trip?

17 years ago it would definitely be Mexico  but since then, Peru has changed for the better and even if there's crime in both countries, the main difference is that in Peru these crimes are solved and therefore it's harder for the criminals to get away with it.

For example, last may an Israeli woman who was living and working in Arequipa (so we're talking of someone who knew her way around in the city) was raped and murdered. The police captured the criminal in July.

Mexico is bigger than Peru in many things as well as their problems, and two of them are:  Crime and Corruption

Both countries are going through some tough times because of the governments that they had with the previous presidents and the new ones. But by a SMALL margin, I would have to say that Mexico is a safer country than Peru. The reason is that Peru has a growing number of kidnappings that we don't hear about in the US. Also, the economy had been obliterated by the last president Alejandro Toledo, who purposely ruined the economy and signed a free trade agreement with the US.

You know what happens to a country when there's no work, there's more crime.
