Peter, you posted this question in Peru so I dont understand why you ask this question. Surely you had an idea when you posted it here and not in general Latin America! Yes, it is in Peru, in the region of Cuzco in the Andes mountains; south east of Lima (the capital).

The sacred mountain city of Machu Picchu is Peru.   This is a beautiful ancient city, but now what remains is the stone walls structure, as 600 years have passed since its residents actually lived here.  

It is accessible via bus ride up the mountain or hiking the Inka Trail to its peak.  

In 2007 Machu Picchu was named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
