In my opinion we can not tell about the riches & poors as the nature can upset our predictions.

Does anyone thought that the desert countries like UAE can be such wealthy nations before the discovery of petroleum usage.

The distribution of wealth is almost same throughout the world. one can tell about rich & poor things only at a particular snapshot of time, but not on absolute terms.

According to the CIA World Factbook, in 2006 Luxembourg had the highest GDP per person at $71,400 and Malawi and Somalia tied with $600 per person for the lowest GDP . The U.S. ranked 10th in the world.
