  1. They are all great countries to visit. It depends on what YOU want to see and do.What about the other two countries in Central America?

  2. Definitely Nicaragua, and Honduras. Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America so right away you have more diversity. Nicaragua contains the largest rainforests in the Americas, North of the Amazon in Brazil. We also have the two largest lakes in Central America (one of which is 2nd largest in Latin America). So, if you're into nature an biodiversity, absolutely Nicaragua. Nicaragua, if you're on a budget, is very cheap. Panama and El Salvador are expensive and many travelers i have met avoid El Salvador and Guatemala because of the dangers they have gone through there. Thy both have the highest crime rate in Central America. If your religious, Nicaragua is home to the largest Church in the region and the most recent/modern one too. We have the oldest colonial city in mainland Americas, which is Granada, folloed by Leon, both founded in early 1500s. If you're into adventure, here in Nicaragua you can head to Leon, where you will find Cerro *****. I go about once every month. Cerro *****, i think, is the only active volcano in which you can ski down in the entire world. Its about $5 fo all the gear to ski down, very fun. If you want to relax, hotel Las Barcelonas in Montelimar (in Managua) is sort of pricey ($100) but well worth the money. The beach there is amazing, they also have a private strip of beach. It is beautiful with soft white sand and clear blue water. Among other places to visit in Nicaragua is the amazing Ometepe island in Lake Nicaragua, the islets of granada, andthe Corn Island. Corn Islands are located in the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. You will never encounter anything like it again, it is amazingly beautiful, very "off the beaten track". Tourist infrastructure is limited, but thats the beauty of it. It is not overrun by other tourists or 60 story skyscrappers like other Caribbean islands. Honduras is also very beautiful and the Roatan island is amazing

Many people (100% of which have never set foot in Nicaragua; as the answerer below me) are unaware that the civil wars (which were the fault of the U.S.'s greedy capitalists) have been over for over a decade. Nicaragua has been continually rated the Safest country in Central America. Although it is poor that does not mean it is not safe; see for example the poverty of south-east asian countries, high poverty, extremely low crime. Although, i can't say the same for El Salvador; it is rated with the highest crime rate in Central America; 58 homicides per 100,00 people (compared to only 14 per 100,000 in Nicaragua; Guatemala 48, Honduras 44).

  3. Panama is the most modern of teh four and has a great airport served by a great airline (Copa). From Panama you can fly almost anywhere in Latin America.

Honduras's Bay Islands are extremely beautiful and are like paradise.

Nicaragua and El Salvador still have issues that relate to crime (especially street gangs in El Salvador) and also a poor infrastructure for massive tourism that was a result of the civil wars that ravaged them in the 1980s.

Panama, Costa Rica and Belize would be my top three countries to visit in Central America. I am not say that the others don't offer something, but modern conveniences and good travel infrastructure is key for an ideal vacation.
