Which country would you consider to be safer, New Zealand or Australia?

Just wondering what peoples opinions are of these two countries in terms of safety? i may be immigrating to one of the two

I can basically tell you from my experience. I have lived in Australia and New Zealand also so I can luckily comment on this. Though it's not a good way to judge but since you have asked so I will try convincing you.

My experience in Australia related to crime was quite bitter so I would put it New Zealand as far safer than Australia and also quite friendlier. People are very very decent and helpful in NZ as compared to that of Australia.

I travel between both countries and I couldn't say one was safer than the other, there are areas in both where the crime rate is high. I think that seems to be the way that the world is evolving.

I would go with Australia. I'm not sure about safey but it is the best out of the two. I've been to Australia twice and I would love to live there.
