Credit cards that are directly affiliated with an airline frequent flier program tend to be the best choice.

For example, cards like American Express Delta Skymiles and United Visa actually earn airline miles, and can earn "elite qualification" miles.  Using them to make online purchases via the airlines' websites allows you to "double dip". You also may be able to earn miles twice by purchasing tickets and vacations with the card.

You also need to consider which airline you are most likely to use for travel over the long term, and choose the card that will best allow you to concentrate miles on that airline.  Most airlines have a credit card that is affiliated with their FF program.
