  1. Most of the mass market cruise lines are pretty equal in quality. The cruise experience will be similar on both.  Each however has a few things that make them a bit different from each other.  RCCL has the wave pools / rock climbing walls etc.  CCL has the water slides and the pool games.  Food / service quality is pretty similar. Both lines are geared towards families.

  2. Royal Carribean outdoes Carnival by a mile for Food and Service.  For activities, it depends on what you are looking for.  If you have kids and are looking for a lot of kid activities, you may like Carnival.  I really think though, that the only advantage to Carnival is thier low price.

  3. I like Carnival much better. I have been on about a dozen cruises with Carnival and have always had a great time, including the eastern carribean. The shows are great, the food is incredible, and the staff is very friendly. After hearing so much about Royal carribean, my husband and I decided to try them for the first time in December, and were very disappointed. The food was only mediocre, the shows were lousy, except for a couple, and their organization was pathetic. The staff was friendly, but whenever you asked them a question, they all seemed wishy washy and never seemed to know what was going on, or what answer to tell you. We won't go on another Royal Carribean again. We are sticking with Carnival. Good luck with whichever you choose and I hope you have a great time.

  4. That depends on you.

Activities on Carnival are "Fun Ship" based, and include things like hairy chest contests, pool games, towel folding demonstrations, and the like.  Royal Caribbean is more likely to provide tours of parts of the ship, big band dancing, and the like.

Both have Bingo, Shows and other entertainment, casinos with all kinds of activities, pool games of some sort, karaoke, movies, kids events, and the like.  The food is comparable with Carnival having a slight edge, and service is, IMHO, identical on the two.

I personally like Royal Caribbean more, but I am older (52) and like dancing.
