  1. Of the cruises I have been on, my pick is Royal Caribbean

  2. It all depends on how much you want to pay. Another factor is if you are bringing children along. All lines are different.

Me, I stay with Regent. Six star, and for me, it's worth the extra money. It is one of the most expensive, but I like all that they offer. But it really is a matter of what you want. And how much you want to pay.

    Talk to your agent.

    Never, ever, ever  take NCL!

  3. Everyone who answers you will give you a different answer.

Each line has its own characteristics.  Carnival for the younger crowd, Royal Caribbean for the 40-60 (although lately they are getting the younger more active crowd). Disney for children and so forth.  Some of the other answers will give you more detail.

My favorite is Royal Caribbean (Yes - I'm in the 40-60 group).

I have to agree with the other answer stay away from NCL.  While free style cruising is good for some people, it does tend to lower the food service quality since there are many resturants on a ship.

But I think that any line that you go on you will enjoy if you make the most of it.  It is a fun vacation.

    Happy Cruising!!

  4. It depends exactly what you want?  Like they say that Carnival is for families.  I have never used Carnival since most people say the food is not the best.

Holland America, which I love, is really European, good food, music, great staff.  But more passengers are old people (since in my last Holland America cruise I was one of the babies when I was 60).

Celebrity Cruise is wonderful, great food, nice staff and close to Holland America except that the passengers are not young or old, just in the middle.

Royal Caribbean is wonderful also that is the best I think for families, great food, great staff, and interesting lounges, but be careful with those big big ships, you get lost and there are too many people.

If you are rich, go to one of those special cruise lines -- I have never used them.

Norwegian is okay where you can eat whenever you want or restaurants.  But the food is so-so.

So check them all and decide what you want.  All of them have shows and schedules for what you may be interested.

  5. You are asking the wrong question - There's no answer to which line is the best...

What you need to be asking is Which cruise line is the best for ME?

Each cruise line is different, and not not every line suits everyone.  If you like the best of the best, and insist on suites and limos whenever you travel, then a luxury line is going to be best for you, and you'll probably not be happy on board Carnival...

Want a very active vacation with rock climbing, zip lines, ice skating, in-line skating etc... Then Royal Caribbean would suit you better....

Not only that, but depending on where you are looking to go also affects the recommendation.  For example when it comes to Alaska both Princess and Holland America have the best programs in Alaska.  They've been there the longest and have invested a lot of money in their Alaska offerings...

Are you younger, young at heart, mature, or just older?  Some lines (and itineraries) are known for attracting an older (or younger) crowd.

These are all things that a good travel agent, one who specializes in cruises will ask you.  Then they'll work with you to determine which line and itinerary is the best for you.  I suggest calling Cruise Planners at 888-286-9827 (www.mycruiseplanner.net) and talking with them.  They offer the same deals that the big online sites do...  and they don't charge any service fees.  Let the travel agent do the research for you - that's what they're for!
