Which degree is better bachelors in human services or bachelors in social work ?

i have my associates in human services.. I did my internship working with people that have a mental illness and i really loved it. thats what i want to do. I was curious which degree would be better for that.

  1. You're probably better off with a degree in social work, though a bachelor's may not get you what you want; you may want the MSW.  Human services often translates into employment/human resources jobs in the workplace.  Have you considered asking people doing the kind of work you'd like what degrees they have?  Or asking the employers what degress they want?


  2. The BA in social work is a far superior degree on multiple levels.

    1) The BSW is an accredited degree - schools do a BA in human services when they don't want to do an accredited degree (most of these are online colleges).

    2) Most jobs recognize the BSW because of the accreditation, All things being equal a BSW will be viewed as more qualified.

    3) The BSW gives you the ability to apply for advanced standing for your MSW - saving you a year.
