  1. Champagne is a region in France, not a city. It is to the east of Paris and covers the departments of Ardenne, Aube, Haute-Marne, Marne and Meuse.

  2. Champagne is a traditional region of France. It was once the domain of the feudal Count of Champagne. These traditional divisions of France do not perfectly correspond to the modern day legal regions.

Most, but not all,  of what was traditionally known as Champagne is now part of the French administrative region of Champagne-Ardenne.

There are five départements within the region; Aisne, Aube, Haute-Marne, Marne, and Seine-et-Marne.

NB: The Meuse département is part of the current region of Lorraine and not of Champagne as the second answer above claims.

  3. This department is "Marne".

and the mean Town is Reims.

The area is called "Champagne Ardenne"
