  1. But they are a Feral animal.. and not native to this county .. despite us having the world's largest population of wild camels.


  2. Feral camels live in the Great Sandy Desert, Gibson Desert and Simpson Desert ie central Australia and central Western Australia.

    They are not Australian Camels, but were imported in the 19th century to open up the arid areas of Central and Western Australia, and were used as pack and draught animals.  Unfortunately they adapted to the climate too well and are now considered a pest.  While the camels came from a variety of places. the first coming from the Canary Islands, most were imported from India.

    While still considered feral, some camels are now being exported.

    And yes, they are feral, but not so damaging to the envivonment as hooved ferals such as water buffallo.
