Which destination has the best nightlife out of Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata or Punta Cana, DR?

We're a group of maybe 5 in our early to mid 20's going on vacation to DR but we want to go to the spot that has best night life... please HEELLP!!!!

Santo Domingo has more nightlife( Disco, clubs, rest, bar)

Zona Colonial has a lot Bars, Rest, Cafes (also most shopping mall as Mega Centro, Acropolis, Plaza central etc has cafes, bar, rest, and hang out spot)

Also it is busier than Puerto plata and Punta Cana.

Punta Cana is an ALL INCLUSIVE area resorts/hotels.

Puerta Plata has nightlife also. (bar, Clubs, rest,Disco, beach)

I agree with Happy Feet.  Also Santo Domingo is much more dangerous at night.  If your group doesn't know Dominican Spanish, you're better off in a touristy area like Playa Dorado. Cofresi/Costambar that are part of Puerto Plata.  Another option where my friends and I go is Cabarete where the bars are all lined up along the beach and mostly foreign owned, so lots of people from everywhere going out every night of the week.  Puerto Plata, the city, is dead Monday to Friday.  Cabarete has hotels and houses to rent.  a1vacations.com is one sight I use.

Hi "E",

All depending what do you want.

Santo Domingo is the capital (3.000.000 souls) and has a lot of disco's (Dominican way) and night life is good.But no beach, the nearest is Boca Chica (45km).

Puerto Plata (200.000 souls) is more tourist oriented, and have a tremendous night life in and out the resorts. Some famous disco's like Mangu, Coco Loco, Roadway, to name a few.

Punta Cana is more a " Golden Jail Area" where there is not much to do outside the resorts. yes you have some disco's ( Mangu) but close to the hotel.

So in conclusion ( I live here) I think Puerto Plata is the best

( not only for the night life).
