  1. I would advise that you go for a Canon. If you're a pro, then listen to J. If not, I would advise you look at a Canon 400D (or the new 450D). They're reasonably priced for what you're getting. Take a look at the below link. Hope this helps.

  2. Well regardless of price I would go for a top range Nikon.

  3. Canon. I got one. Sweet as a nut, pretty as a picture..

  4. They're all good. The difference is in comfort. The user experience is different for everyone. For instance Olympus SLRs are cheaper here, but when I need lenses it becomes a bother. SO I choose Canon and Nikon. I prefer the look of Canons but I can comfortably use both Nikon and Canon. Sony and Pentax bother me because I'll have trouble finding lenses. Maybe it's just the stores I go to, but they hardly have the lenses I'm looking for. Ultimately I would choose Nikon because I can easily find lenses. Infact if it comes to the worst I can buy loads of the old lenses cheap (they work well). You need a good lens but you also ned a good body. Look at stores near you and see what they stock. If they stock everything, then choose the best bdy you can afford. If they stock particular lenses, then choose a body to match the lenses. Also don't ignore 3rd party lenses. You have to be careful with them but many of them are really good, and they usually manufacture them for many different brands so it expands your choice of camera. You have to find a balance between camera and lens. A c**p lens on the greatest camera will make for trouble, but a c**p camera with the greatest lens won't do much better

  5. now what are you asking? do you want the best camera there is or an SLR thats just decent at its job.. because SLR's arnt that good...  there alright but if your going professional and not just a hobbiest even the most expensive top of the line SLR wont cut it... you'll want a blank housing and a digital back to slap in there...

for SLR's  Canon EOS 1D Mark III, next step down Canon EOS Rebel XSi

ive used canons for all my photography and i have to say i'll never switch to anyone over them...

now for my dream setup: The Contax 645 body, with Phase ONE p30+ back...

  6. I'd put Nikon as the best, with Canon a close second,

They have the best systems and glass.

I prefer the layout of Nikon's controls,

    better "ergonomics" for me.

Also, I like the fact that I can use ALL the lens I have bought over 30 years, on my D200.

This may not be true for some of the lower end Nikons?

I don't know when Canon's "Cutoff" is for older lens?

Oly is a decent choice, if you are looking for a low end DSLR, and only want 1 or 2 lens,

but they do NOT have the choice of lens that Nikon and Canon do.

  7. it's not the camera body you should look for. it's got to be the lenses. whatever camera body you have either beginner or advanced, what will make the picture is the quality of the lens and your technique.

say so have a pro body and you slam in a loser lens, no matter what you do, it will still produce suckky pictures. the camera is only as good as the lens you super slam infront of it.

now, if you watch sports on TV, you'll see a lot of big gigantic white lenses scattered. most probably it will be a canon. this will give you a hint of the choices of professionals. if ever you have one of these big guns super slamed infront of your canon camera, we canon people will be like, WHOA! then our jaws will fall to the ground. and of course envy you.

there is really no best camera because one way or another they will trump each other.

disclaimer: i am not a professional. i just like canon because some pro made me buy canon and i never regretted it.

p.s. goodluck on your choice. remember that the grass is always greener on the other side, so choose wisely. its an investment. i hope to see your pictures someday.

  8. Nikon and Canon are like burger king and McDonald's

Olympus is just lost 4/3 sensor :(

Sony imo should just make TV's and not Camera's

    In Short

Nikon imo has the largest selection of glass

Nikon imo has better customer service

Nikon imo has better built bodies

    Nikon/Nikkor has better lenes

Nikon imo has the edge right now with the D3

But hey there is a list for Canon too but this is what I prefer.
