  1. This question is asked a lot... the key thing is to check them out yourself. Go to the camera store, play with them, check out their accessories, then buy the one that you're most comfortable with.

Both Canon and Nikon make great cameras. Buy the one that makes you happy.

  2. Nikon, I think nikon is better, I worked with both, so I know.

    Nikon D80,Nikon D60,Nikon D40x, Nikon D200etc has 10mp

If you want a used camera look on craigslist

Just look in your state to see who is selling there used stuff

  3. 5x zoom?  Are you wanting a SLR or a point and shoot?  If you want a point and shoot, it doesn't matter, buy the one thats on sale.

I prefer my good stuff to be nikon but thats just me.  The point and shoot camera that I bought my wife was a 100 dollar fuji.  It takes great snapshots.

  4. HI Dimple,

To ask us here, you don't get the experience of deciding for yourself.  Shopping,  looking at all of the models, asking good questions from the sales people... as they don't care which one you buy, they just want you to buy one.

You can get Canon... you can get Nikon.  Both are great.  Both have really nice lenses.  Both take superb images and both will leave you very satisfied about your choice once you buy it and get to know it.

I  have both brands but for my lightweight digital SLR I use a Canon XTi.   It is nice.  It is very very user friendly... hardly no confusion at all.

But I won't say bad things about the Nikon lightweight cameras either.  They are good, too.  But the reason I have the Canon is that I got a super good deal on it and could not pas up such a bargain.

Go camera shopping, Girl.  Hold the cameras in your hand. Really get the feel of both and then decide which you think fits your style and personality.  Ask questions of the sales clerk... but when you do buy one... know that you have a good camera... either Nikon or Canon.

Thanks for reading and hope you get that camera soon.  :))

  5. flip a coin, heads for nikon and tails for canon, or visaversa if it suits you.

i have friends that are rabid canon shooters, and i have friends that are rabid nikon shooters.

put their work side by side the only way i can tell whose is whose is by their style. the image quality is the same.

    i use olympus

  6. Nikon and Canon cameras are basically in the same class when it comes to quality. It's not the brand, it's the individual cameras.

Don't compare nikon/canon, find a few cameras you like, narrow it down to just a couple in each brand, and then pick one.

My choice came pretty easy, it was between an XTi and a D80. Overall, it was so close that I just chose the cheapest one.

  7. I think you need to define what you are using it for before you choose a brand.  Back when digitals were coming along nicely, I lusted after a certain Nikon and bought it when the price started to come down.  I love it and use it constantly in ways that I could never use film, but ...

I have had to abandon one of my favorite activities with film which is grabbing casual shots quickly in natural light, because it simply takes too long for the camera to take a picture.  Shortly after getting the camera, models started coming out that bragged about how quickly they could grab a picture - little delay.  But I can't/won't spend money floundering/researching for a new one.

And if you are not going to use the 10 megapixels, don't spend the money.  That will take big pictures with lots of detail, but if you are only taking for 8x10 or 3x5  snap shots and 275k jpg web images, then you are spending money on something you won't use.  Will you be working with RAW images?
