  1. Ideal surf conditions include a light to moderate strength "offshore" wind, since this blows into the front of the wave making it barrel or tube.

  2. Always depends on where your surfing but the wind blowing from land to sea (offshore) is always better. The offshore cleans the swell up by leaving the stonger more powerful lines of swell and getting rid of those smaller lumps to produce clean waves that hold up. Some places can also be good with cross shore winds helping the wave to open and hold up better.

Here on the east coast of NSW in Aus we look for westerly winds. SW -W- NW

    Happy surfing.

  3. depends on what u like,

onshore breezes make shorter faster waves while offshore make better shaped beginner waves

the dude that said beaches in cali i partially right, those beaches suck a lot!!!!

  4. Offshore, (wind blowing from the land to the sea), is definitely the best. It cleans the wave face and holds them up for hollower conditions.

The actual direction depends on which way you're facing... the dude who said East for California is dead wrong! Some beaches in California face South, some face North and some face West, so it all depends on which way you're facing... just be sure it's blowing OFF shore!

  5. It depends both on the wave and the swell direction. Offshore (blowing off the shore out into the ocean) winds are ideal, generally, because they shape the wave and create glassy, hollow conditions. Onshore (blowing onto the shore) winds suck. Then there are crosswinds, which is anything in between. These can be good or bad, they usually create scattered peaks. Mostly, it depends on the spot you're surfing.

It explains a lot about how waves are generated and wind, as well as providing surf reports.

  6. offshore, here in California it would be east wind
