  1. Try as many as you can so that you can get a feel for what's out there, then buy the one you like the best.  Cheapest may not be the best, however.

That said, I use a Mares R12 Rebel, and I love it. But which of us on here isn't going to say that we love the reg that we dive with? It's our life support, and obviously, if we didn't like it, we would get a different one.

I've never purchased anything from Leisure Pro, but I have heard that they don't give you the complete manufacturer's warranty... there's nothing wrong with buying gear on the net; just make sure you get all your warranties.

You can also go to scubadiving.com, and check out their reviews of regulators.

  2. I used to use a Sherwood Blizzard Regulator and it worked great. Made for cold water, but works just as well in warm or regular water.

  3. I've got the Mares V-16 Proton XL Regulator and I'm absolutely in love with it. It's extremely light weight so it's quite comfortable to use. The second stage looks great also. I've done alot of dives in rather remote areas during my last vacation and it didn't get scratched up at all. It still looks brand new even though I've put it through h**l. I bought the V-16 reg at LeisurePro in NY and they gave me a really really good deal ($150). You can buy their stuff online and the best part is that you can still haggle for it. They'll email you for a quote... so you aren't necessarily stuck with the prices that they advertise on the website.
