there is no better, they are very different and yet they compliment one another. anthropology is the main field with archaeology being a sub-branch of anthropology. the question really does not make sense.

LOL - you are just asking for people to get in an arguement! And "better" depends largely on what you mean by better. More important to society? More fun to do? I am an archaeologist - I think archaeology is more interesting.

A note of clarification - archaeology is ONLY part of anthropology in North America, and even then not at every university. In the rest of the world these are two (or more) separate disciplines.

Archeology is a branch of anthropology.

Anthropology is the study of human cultures, past and present. Archeology is the study of ancient (and modern) cultures through their physical remains (cultural as well as actual human remains). And within archeology there are many sub disciplines, such as specializations in lithics, ceramics, forensic, etc.
