When I learned first how to drive, my father made me learn stick. I HATED it. My first two cars were stick. Then I got an automatic and drove that for 10 years. Then I went back to stick... and really apreciated how much control I had over the car.

  1. My father made me do the same as you--I had to learn on a stick and I could never quite understand WHY he made me do that lol, but I am so thankful he did. I'm 20 and I've only had 2 cars thus far, a Honda Accord & now a Pontiac Firebird--both were/are manual shift.

I am definitely biased towards stick shifts for pretty much the same reasons as you--a LOT more control, fun to drive, plus the quick-get up.

I get sooo bored in automatics now. I always feel like my right hand should be shifting or something lol. Stick shifts are definitely my preference. =)

  2. I love manual transmission, glad that you're the same category as me too! I had my driving exam in Manual (no such thing as Auto driving test here in Malaysia), but after I stalled the car many times, I was so afraid of driving manual, always hoping for an Auto. But in the end, I got so tired and felt helpless driving an auto. Manual sharpens one's senses and mind, gives one better control and also a better sense of driving decision (in choosing high/low gear). Auto is for one who is not so suitable for driving, eg if I have a one-leg injury. Also, traffic jam is not a problem for me driving a manual, just that I get a bit agitated and restless not able to drive faster...

  3. Automatic transmission would be the best and will keep you focused on the road...........................

  4. I love a straight drive dont get me wrong here... it all depends on where you live. If you live in a big city where there is a lot of stop and go traffic then i would say an automatic because of wear and tear on a clutch. But if lived out (like where i do) then a straight drive is awesome.

  5. i dont know i think i would perfer auto-matic cause i am almost 21 and cant drive, well never learned how and am scared of vehicles.

  6. I learned on an automatic. But I had an easy time learning stick shift also. I like the stick because you can get a little more torque while driving. But I really hate driving a stick when I am in stop and go traffic for like 10 miles straight. Anyone that has ever visited Raleigh, NC will know what I am talking about, as well as 20 other major cities. LOL.

Anyway, they both have there pros and cons. And I like both.

  7. Stick shift for performance

    Automatic for comfort & convenience

  8. When I first learned to drive I wanted to learn on a stick but mom would not allow it. ...so I got stuck learning to drive an automatic in her minivan. That didn't thrill me too much because it was too big. I loved it when I got my first car...1985 Volvo 240 sedan. It was automatic. I had that car for 6 years. I plan on getting another someday...with a stick. :D
