  1. 9 ball. I seem to tend on that, for some reason, mainly because it's quicker.

  2. ATTENTION!!!!!

I prefer 8 Ball.   But I'm much better at 9ball.  I prefer 8 Ball cause I like the fact that I can play safety using my opponets ball as obsticles, just simply making his shot tougher.  However, I always seem to rank #1 or 2 during the 9 ball leagues in San Antonio.  In any case playing BCA 8 ball always prepares me for the BIG May tournament in Las Vegas.  Good luck to you.

  3. 8 ball because im really good at it, plus it lasts longer.

  4. I prefer straight pool to either, but of the 2 I'd say 8 ball. Neither game is really easier or harder, they just require slightly different skill sets. 8 ball is more of a strategic game, while 9 ball is more of a shotmakers game. (Not that shotmaking is not a required skill in 8 ball or strategy is not required in 9 ball, that's just where it's more important). I've met plenty of 9 ball players who weren't too great at 8 ball and vice versa because they didn't have the skills developed enough to play the other game well.

People seem to think 8 ball is easier, but I think that's mainly because most bad players only play 8 ball and 90% of pro tournaments are 9 ball. In reality, 8 ball played at the highest level is no less challenging than 9 ball, they're just different.

  5. I like 9ball, takes more skill.

  6. 9 ball! quick and fast

  7. Nine ball seems to be a much faster paced game

  8. 9 ball 8 is just a passtime no money and takes to long

  9. 8 ball, merely because you spend less money over time at the table!

  10. 9 ball, slop counts, but you have to make tougher shots.

  11. 8 ball Johnny makes me rack to much playing 9 ball-He will give me a game of 8 sometime

  12. What ever

  13. I prefer 8 ball over 9 ball. It just seems to be a more strategic game. 9 ball is fast and looks good on television but it lacks the allure of having to shoot around seven other obstacles. (That would be your opponents balls) 9 ball is excellent for practicing safeties and cue ball position which are crucial for anyone's 8 ball skills.

As a side note: Talk about slop? 9 ball? Now THERE'S a game for slop shooters. :)

And as far as slop goes, how many of you knew that slop is a well standing rule in the professional circuit in 8 AND 9 ball? Knowing that, how many times have you even seen a professional slop a ball into a pocket during a match? It is exceedingly rare.

Slop is usually contested by some bar room player that's a pool player wanna be. They just don't know the rules and intracies of the game.

  14. Depends on skill level. If you are high skill level: 9 ball simply because of the order and penalties. Recreational level: 8 ball mainly because it lasts longer but also more people play.

  15. As a money player 9 ball Fast  with the most money usually

I can play 6 or 7 games of 9 while P-ing around with 1 game of 8 for less money

But I dont know a game I dont like if the money is right.

  16. Too much thinking in 8 ball versus 9 ball..so I prefer 9 ball....8 ball as everyone pointed out is more more complicated....it is like a war game and you just have to know when you are ready to sacrifice your soldiers to get to the main man(8ball)....I really enjoy 8 ball but is just too slow versus 9 ball....skill level is same but you really really need to be ahead in the thinking game with 8 ball...what am I trying to say?....I guess I don't like "thinking" so much!

  17. 9 ball

  18. I prefer 8 ball for the same reason that others prefer 9 ball, there's more "luck" involved in 9 ball.

I prefer to minimize that aspect as much as possible.

Unless ... of course ... I'm playing someone better than my bad self.  Then I'm thinking 9 ball!

  19. IT DEPEND WHAT GAME YOUR USED TO. ITS HARD TO SWITCH FROM ONE STRATEGY TO ANOTHER. 8 BALL EACH PLAYER HAS ITS OWN BALL AND THEY CAN PLAY DEFENSE AND OFFENSE AT THE SAME TIME. 9 BALL YOU EITHER PLAY OFFENSE OR DEFENSE BUT NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. TO BE GOOD AT 9 BALL YOU HAVE TO BE ONE HECK OF A BANKER AND A DEFENSE PLAYER. THE REAL MONEY IS IN 8 BALL THO BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT 95 PERCENT OF THE PEOPLE LIKE TO PLAY WHETHER THEY ARE GOOD OR NOT. I USED TO MAKE MONEY PLAYING 8 BALL AND NOT EVEN TRY. BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE ARE SELF DESTRUCTIVE BY NATURE. SMOKERS ,ALCOHOLICS, DRUG ADDICT ETC. IN POOL MOST PEOPLE BEAT THEM SELF AS WELL.

  20. 8-ball. More fun, and the game lasts longer.

  21. There is more skill that goes into 8 ball.

  22. neither!!! totally boring the both of them...snooker's the game!!!

  23. 9 ball because it improves your 8 ball game

    1. by making you shot numbers in order.

    2. it just moves faster and most people prefer 8 ball so you get a different kind of pool shooter with 9 ball

  24. 9 ball because it is easier.

  25. 9, less balls and much more organized..

    well.. this is my preferation

  26. 8 ball as it requires more skill

  27. I prefer 9 ball for the speed at which I can win money and for the "luck" factor. Some idiot that thinks he can play saying things like "yeah he just beat me a zillion games in a row but it's nothing but luck"      that gives me a warm feeling all over.

    Luck
