  1. Wow, they are so different! While they have approximately the same population, D.C. is surrounded by the towns in Virginia & Maryland that make it seem MUCH larger. D.C. has the awesome museums, the Kennedy Center, impressive buildings, and an International flavor while Austin is a laid-back quirky (in a great way) city with great music venues and forward-thinking people.

I have lived both places and like them both for different reasons.

  2. Hm. This is a hard one. Austin has great night life, history, and plenty of smart college students...but

DC has a subway system, and plenty of stuff to visit.

I would say that DC is the best. Pick DC.

  3. Ah...I grew up near DC, Alexandria, and I have lived in Austin for 20 plus years and I like both for completely different reasons.  The 2 cities aren't really anything alike.  DC is fast moving and has a highly charged political atmosphere.  Austin, despite it being the state capital, is more laid back.  DC is also more formal, whereas Austin is very casual.  I love to visit DC, it's so very pretty there in the springtime, but I'd have to choose Austin as a place to live.  It's definitely cheaper to live here, that's for sure!
