  1. This was a tough question but I think I prefer Port days.

On Port days, depending on where the ship is docked you can go on a tour either booked with the ship or one you arrange yourself.   For the most part be prepared to get up early, grab breakfast and be ready for the tour as most tours leave about 8:30 am.   ALWAYS make sure you have your ship's boarding cards and another piece of picture id with you so you don't have to run back for it.  You can't get on/off the ship without this identification card issued by the ship.  Also bring a bottle of water with you. If you wander on your own around the area  or with arrangements made on your own and you don't get back in time, you may get back to wave goodbye to the ship sailing in the distance.  If you've booked a tour though the ship they will always wait for you.   If you're ship pulls into a port where you can just wander on your own for awhile it's very relaxing.   Port days are a great way to see the area and meet the locals.   By taking tours while on a cruise you get an idea of what the area and people are like and if you like it you can book to go to that particular destination at your convenience.

I also love days at sea as they are much more relaxing.   Ships have lots of activities planned for these days if you want to participate.  I like lounging around the pool and soaking up those rays myself as I don't get too much at home (make sure you wear sunscreen).

I'm sure everyone has different opinions of these days and while most of the time you might prefer one or the other it sure is nice to have that nice mixture of busy and relaxing.

  2. Port Days!  More to see and do!

  3. I don't mind sea days, but I couldn't do a crossing where you're at sea for a week or so, I think I would go bananas.  I am a scuba diver, so when I cruise, it's places where I can dive.  Is anything more convenient and wonderful than having a ship take you from island to island while you have dinner in your formal gown?  I don't think so!!

  4. I love just being on the ship!

  5. I love sea day. I'm not sure why, but I love when the boat's sailing more than when it's docked. Plus, there are more things to do onboard when the ship's at sea. I like getting off at a port, looking around for a little, then coming back on (unless I'm doing an excursion). So ports aren't really that spectaular to me.

  6. Sea days are much more relaxing while port days are a lot more hectic.  So, it depends on what you enjoy.  The ships always have things going on port or sea days so you don't have to worry about being bored on the ship.  My husband and I have decided that our next cruise we are going to just stay on the ship while in port.

  7. most of the people! I encounter onbaord the ship prefer port days specially if it is there first time on the place they are visiting. most of the cruise company have a sea day on their itenerary. You can will experience the life on board. all the shows they will offer and all the food and a lot more interseting things to do. while on sea day.

Just enjoy both! and experience the life on board the ship.

Work as a waiter on a cruise ship.

  8. It really depends on the destination for me.  I prefer sea days if traveling south.  When I went to Alaska, I really enjoyed both.  The sea days had so much scenery and wildlife that it was really fun.  But the port days were really fun because the towns are unique up there and a lot of fun to visit.

  9. Just watching clouds floating by. No traffic, noise pollution, ringing phones etc.

    Definitely sea days.

  10. port days! that's what all the cruising is about. the sea days are just the sidings of the package.

  11. Port Days are very fun because you get to go and explore the area but sea days can be fun too. They let you get to know the shop better and watch entertaining shows and go swimming. So basically it just depends on you.

  12. Port days and Sea nights.

  13. Port days of course, if you visit a place like rome almost everyone leaves and it feels like you have the ship to yourself. And because rome is a fair way from the port the ship is empty for hours and hours......

God i love that..... anyway warm balmy nights at sea when everyone is in the bar and you are walking around the promenade deck holding hands with the one you love watching the phosforesence breaking on the ships lights..... That is what cruising is all about.

  14. Sea

  15. a mix of both . . .

  16. Port days. Sea days are a waste of time.

  17. A mix of both, I think, but mostly port days. I love visiting new places.

On our first cruise, last December, we had a sea day, two port days, and a sea day.

I was unfamiliar with cruising, didn't know what I was doing, and to me, the sea days ended up being like a long car ride, waiting to get somewhere.

For our next cruise, coming in February, we'll wake up the first day in port, have a second day in port, then the third day will be a sea day, which I think will be a nice day to rest and relax and enjoy the ride back home this time.

  18. I prefer both. You can  have fun during both. You can relax during your days at sea and learn about each port of call before you get to it and then there are all of the games and fun and food and shows and things to do on the boat.

Port days are a lot of fun because that is when you can play indian jones or Tombraider and go be an explorer for the day and learn about differnet people and their culture.

You can read about places but actually being able to actually visit  makes for a better understanding.

  19. I love "AT SEA" days because you can really relax and enjoy at leasure all of the activities on ship.  I really love at sea days after I have had a couple days of touring.

  20. Depends on what ship I am on. On a large ship I want more sea days than on a smaller ship. Johan

  21. I used to prefer sea days, but as I get older (59) the sea days now seem VERY boring and a waste of time!
