Which do you prefer the Cage or the Ring?

Question

In an mma bout which do you prefer?

I like the ring better than the cage. The cage can become a grappler's/wrestler's tool. I like it better when both the striker and grappler depend only on themselves and not the environment.

The cage is a whole lot better for a striker as well. The angles make it easy to stalk your opponent. You can also use the cage to set up take downs and slams. When you have control in front of your opponent against the cage you can push your weight forward and they will spring slightly off the fencing. Enough for you to use their momentum to pick them up and slam them.

The cage is a great tool for defense as well. If you are being dominated on the ground you can use the cage to get out of trouble (climbing it with your feet etc). In some situations you can move and sit up against the cage giving yourself a chance to get back to your feet.

The ring doesn't really allow for any of these with the exception of possibly using the ropes for take downs.

Purely my opinion but I think most MMA fighters would agree.

Cage for sure.  The ring was what I didnt like about Pride, and what I didnt like about Affliction: Banned last week.  

That is from both a spectator and competitor point of view.

I would have to chose the ring be default because I have never sparred in a cage.

as a spectator I would say the cage- simply because i grew up on boxing and in my mind it separates MMA (even if my favorite was pride fc and they did hold matches in a ring) from boxing-

so psycologically as a spectator it is a "fresh air" thing.

silly, stupid and groundless I know but the whole spectator logic is going to be a matter of subjective personal preference anyway.

after I have sparred in a cage (if I ever do- never really thought about it) I'll let you know if my answer changes on that one.
