Which do you think is a better gps : tom tom or magellan?

i'm looking at both right now, and want to get your opinion on these two units. trying to spend under $200.00, so the low end is what i'm looking at right now. would it be worth it to spend more than that? any faults you've had with either brand?

Don't mean to make the decision harder, but Garmin seem to be the best, although I don't know off hand their price

But to choose between the 2 you stated, I would say Magellan, although I never actually used that type. They are more recognized and popular in the navigation technology world than Tom Tom, therefore probably having better capabilities and support.

Magellan has been getting slammed for problems on various consumer report sites and has a poor record for reliability. Tom Tom hasn't really been out long enough to Gage reliability, but has gotten really good reports as far as speed, accuracy, ease of use, etc. If your only choice is between these two I would go w/ Tom Tom.

I would say also however to reconsider the Garmin, They basically invented the GPS system 15-20 years ago, back when only the military had access to it. Garmin is more expensive and less user friendly, but has the quality, experience, and track record to justify it and back it up.

TOM TOM ONE is good. I got it for christmas, and I love him! I tell my hubby all the time now i have my TOM TOM and he is now my DUMB DUMB!! HEHE

i love my tom tom! magellan is quirkier  than tom tom , my mother in law has one and i don't care for it, maybe it's because i am so used to my tom tom.  though, i must say that in using any gps, you have to use  a hefty amount of common sense.

I have a TomTom ONE 130 and so does my Dad.  We've both had great luck with them.  My brother has a Magellan and he isn't too happy.  He did get the more expensive Magellan.  I paid $149 for mine on Amazon.  I think my Dad got his for $150 at the Circuit City website.

As a matter of fact they have just completed an update,a teaser on their site. The subscription fee is small,the value large.

If you are in the US, Garmin is better. If you are in the UK or Europe, TomTom is better. It's the difference in maps, not features.
