  1. Probably being g*y. Being a vegan is mostly looked upon as just "weird", harmless, eccentric, faddist etc  but many people look at homosexuality as against nature and God himself. someone that needs to be "struck down". Am not being definitive here, just from what I have observed.

I remember one episode of Top Gear where they were almost lynched somewhere n Alabama because they had some liberal signs painted on their cars one of which said "Man Love Rules". they were literally chased out of town. I doubt if they would have gotten the same reaction  if they had "vegetables rock!!" signs instead.

  2. Depends where you live.

There are some communities that are very g*y friendly, but you can't find a restaurant that knows vegans don't eat cheese.

Other places you'll find plenty of Boca burgers, but if you're g*y you better not walk the streets at night.

  3. im guessing being g*y. because it goes against some religions and stuff i guess. idk.

    =] hope this helps.

  4. I would assume being g*y. People don't hold rallies against vegetarians and vegans. But there are entire groups that are homophobic and completely look down upon g*y people.

  5. In BC it seems to be g*y to be less acceptable!  Although I have no intention of g*y  many jerks tend to mistake me for such!   I am a vegetarian and I have no problem getting a vegetarian meal in a restaurant if I ask for such!

  6. Being g*y is probably more difficult (less accepted).   One only has to look at the slew of states that instituted anti same s*x marriage laws over the last 5 years to get that.

Vegans are only unaccepted by society when they become militant about their cause.   Those that are open and understanding of people that do not share their beliefs are openly accepted

  7. Being g*y is less accepted. I've yet to hear of someone beaten to death because they chose a particular diet.

  8. Being vegan is unquestionably a choice whereas being g*y is not.  I don't believe it is, anyway.

Most people who are horrified by my vegan-ism cannot imagine restricting their diets the way that I do.  Most of them are serious "foodies" who never stop to reflect on where their food comes from or how it is produced.  They just know that they like the way it tastes and they'd rather not know the horrible suffering and cruelty that goes into making meat and cheese and milk.

A lot of people think that being g*y is really gross because it isn't something they themselves would want to do.  They only think about the s*x part and not the love part.

So people are extremely judgmental of both, but I don't think that you can compare them because no one ever beats up, marginalizes or kills people for being vegans.

  9. Well I think a guy eating vegatables is more acceptable to our society than a man making out with another man. I am vegan, but I see no problem with people who are g*y. Who cares what they do? They're not hurting anyone. Hope this helps! : )

  10. Being g*y is definitely more difficult than being a vegan.

As others have said no one has been beaten to death for their diet and vegetarian lifestyle.  A lot of us straight vegan males get to  feel a small taste of  the ridicule and stigma that g*y guys go through because people assume that a man who does not eat meat is automatically g*y. Perhaps that is why I have become more sensitive to the rights of those who were born with a different sexual orientation from mine.

Most people that I encounter are rather indifferent towards vegetarianism.  I've only met about ten who were vocally opposed to it.  I can't say that about same-s*x orientation.  Even being a pro-g*y straight person is still a bit taboo.

  11. Why do people think we (vegans) are militant? I've never tried to convert anyone in the 19 years I've been veg. Pretty much all my friends eat meat and a few of them hunt and I still love them!

And how come so many people misspell vegetarian? And why are non-veg's always answering veggie questions?

  12. Being g*y for sure. I rarely come up against problems with being vegan. And the "veggie community" aren't milatant just a few of the more vocal ones.

  13. There's no comparison.

Nobody ever got beaten up or killed for being a vegan, or lived a lie for fear of losing their job, or hurting their family, or was unable to pursue a military or church career (if that was their choice) because of being vegan, and no mindless thugs go 'vegan bashing'.

  14. Probably vegetarian/vegan.

And I say this because the veggie community is constantly trying to force-feed (no pun intended) their beliefs on people ALL THE TIME.

The g*y community just wants equal rights along with hetero's...they're not trying to convert the entire universe to their way of thinking.

  15. i don't think that anyone can answer this conclusively unless they have experienced both types of discrimination.  if anyone on this forum is both g*y and vegetarian or vegan i would trust their answer....anyone else is just playing a guessing game.

    my guess: being g*y.

like others have said, i've never had to fear for my rights, family, job, or even my life because of my diet.

  16. I think being g*y is because noone is harmed for there diet.

  17. How about both at the same time?  I'm a g*y vegan.  Being g*y is far more trying than being vegan.  People find you disgusting, vile, sinful, child molestor, pervert, etc.  It's really sad to hear people say these things out loud, but it can happen quite frequently, most often from young straight males. And I live in a pretty g*y-friendly area so I couldn't imagine those who live in hick towns or the Bible Belt of America.  I'm sure there's a lot of denial going on in those areas.

Vegans are often misunderstood because no one "gets it".  Meat eaters don't understand because they think nothing is killed for dairy/eggs/etc. which we know to be false.  Anyway, vegans are just thought to be kinda out there or taking it too far but no one is disgusted or reviled by my veganism like they are about my sexuality.

  18. Being vegan because it's a CHOICE to be different, and not involuntary, like being g*y.

    Isn't that sad?
