  1. If you are a wealthy state, you would want local government to be more powerful.  If you are not a wealthy state, you would want the federal government to be more powerful.

  2. state. because the people have a better grip on the government when its smaller and more localized.

  3. Power to the people..  The States have rights!  Too bad this has been forgotten.

The STATE should have the power to say that a child rapest deserves the death penalty.

The STATE should have the right to outlaw late-term abortion.

  4. The way it is, but maybe scaled back a little. Why, easy be cause I would not have to have to deal with a state government, every time you cross a state line. But, I am afraid that it will come to that anyways. Loot at all the places you now need a passport now, it will not be long before you will need one to travel in the U.S. as identification

  5. the fed. because its bigger..

  6. It depends on if the matter being considered is a state or federal matter or law. State are better suited to handle matters that effect the state and the federal government is better suited to handle federal matters.

  7. The state government should have more power... while the fed should still have the central/stronger power.

The reason being that the Constitution was written that way. The Constitution actually sets up the individual states with more power... the states lost all the power after the civil war. The civil war was started because of the federal government... and for some reason people thought it was a good idea to give more power to the fed.

The state governments are smaller so they can reflect the opinions of the people more easily, and passing stupid laws are less likely. You do have the weird ones (every state has them) but you don't end up with stupid laws which cost everyone trillions of dollars of debt. Our federal government can't balance the budget and spends more than they take.

When the states had more power the union was in fact stronger, and when one state's economy suffered hard times, most of the other states wouldn't feel it. Today, every state feels the pains of one state... no matter the problem.

We need smaller government so they can leave me and my money alone. I can manage my money a lot better than a politician ever could.

  8. State governments because they control a much smaller area whereas with a federal government a single power must control the entire continent which is very likely to result in disaster and it has.

  9. States governments. State governments are closer to the people, and understand the problems that face that particular state. The founding fathers distrusted a strong, centralized government, because it would result in tyrannical rule by a few hundred men in Washington, and thats what happened.

  10. Basically power should be given to the states for their citizens to decide things. i.e. Oregon has voted 3 times to allow 'assisted suicide', obviously something which their residents agree with after 3 elections - the Feds have taken the decision down all 3 times - the people should decide.

There are major issues (military, flood control, immigration, foreign policy, etc) which require an over reaching coordination/ administration.

  11. It depends if you're asking Democrats or Republicans. Dem= strong National, and Rep= strong state. I'm an independent, but I still think we should have a strong National government.

  12. Why do you think it matters, who ? They are both managed by Politicians. Can you spell corrupt.

  13. When it comes to "Power", The Feds should control the States, the States should control its Lands, & the People should control their Lives. And there should be NO "meddling" of any "one" into the Other!  :)

  14. considering the federal Government is all Bull @#%$, I'd say state in a typical conversation, however, this is not the case. the reality is that federal has all the power. they make us pay taxes unjustly... did you know that there is no law that says we have to pay income taxes???
